I cooked Upma for the first time in my life at 9.00 A.M. I.S.T. on Wednesday the 30th of January 2019.
Here Is The Recipe.
Fry 2 Medium Sized Onions as well as 2 large diced Tomatoes till soft.
Add 1/4 tsp of Turmeric Powder and 1/4 tsp of salt as well. '
Separately. Heat 2 Tablespoons of Ghee Or Clarified Butter on Medium Heat and add to this 1 Full Cup Of Soji.
Roast on Low Heat with stirring till slightly brown. Put Off Both Fires.
Add the Tomato - Onion Mixture to Soji. Mix Well and add 2 Cups Of Water.
Adjust for Salt and Mix.
Now, Start the Fire and let it cook for 3-4 Minutes till it starts to thicken, stirring all the time.
Turn The Heat Off, Cover, and Let It Finish Cooking.
Make sure that the Soji is as soft as possible, If Not One May have to add a little water and
ReCook.
Enjoy.
Notes :
1) I feel rather strongly that what we call Soji in India is known as "Semolina'" In The West.
2) If at all you want it spicy just add 1/4 tsp of Garam Masala Powder.
